After 3 months (sheesh), I’m back on my Booktube channel with a new video. I’ve missed Booktube so much, and was a little bummed that I wasn’t able to do my “Best Books of” montage video for 2017 before January 1st. I was working on a writing project and before I knew it, it was the middle of January.
I decided to ask on both Twitter and Instagram would this still be something y’all would still want to see, and I was so glad y’all said yes! I love these montage videos because it feels like a nice recap and a good way to see all of my hairstyles from the year lol!
Speaking of YouTube videos – there’s been a little change in the way that they do their Partner program. For those of you who don’t know, if you’re a YouTube Partner, you can monetize your videos, include links and video annotations in your videos, and a bunch of other things. Initially, you had to have 10K views to become a partner, but now, YouTube has changed the rules and you have to have gained 1K subscribers and 4,000 of watch time in one year. If you (or I) don’t meet this threshold by February 28, you won’t be able to be Partner or monetize your videos.
I’ve gone on and on about how unfair this was for the smaller YouTubers who post enough to get Google checks and take the time to include video annotations and things like that, but not necessarily big enough to have 4,000 of watch time (I’ve checked – I’ve gained 1300 subscribers in the past year but only around 2300 of watch time) and how, by taking things like video annotations away you’re essentially driving away traffic from the smaller channels. It’s not even about the money, it just feels icky to target smaller YouTubers! Now, though, I’ve decided to just this new rule as motivation to get back into Booktube (and maybe knock out one of my goals while I’m at it). If you an avid YouTube watcher, take out the time and check out a couple of smaller channels. It doesn’t have to be mine!
I hope you enjoy! What were your favorite books of last year? I’d love to know!
