September Goals 2016

A little late, but I definitely need to be held accountable for these goals. Like I said in my last post, I’m moving to New York, and since this came about so quickly, I have a lot of stuff to do this month! First, a look at my August Goals. August was a fun and…

I’m Moving to New York!

As you’ve probably guessed by the title, next month (!!!) I will be moving to New York City, as I’ve accepted a spot in a Fellowship Program! Although this is a program I’ve applied for earlier this year, the interviewing process and actually getting a spot happened so FAST. The actual turnaround was so quick that I barely…

The Happies!

Happy Friday! I had an idea to do occasional weekly rounds-up of things I’ve done this week and things I’ve seen on the internet that made me smile. Just something that you can look at on the internet that’s guaranteed to be 100% positive. Until I can think of a better name, I want to…

August goals and million other things

Hello! This blog has definitely been radio silent for a number of reasons. I’ve missed this space on the web and it’s definitely time for us to catch up and talk about WHERE I’VE BEEN?! and touch on goals and other things that’s been going on. — Sidenote: This should be another Currently post, but…

May Goals + Procrastination

This post is late, which is great because it fits in with the theme of last month which was procrastination. How many times do we I have to talk about procrastination before we I say enough is enough? How many times will I have to rush through an article, a blog post, or an assignment the night…

April Goals + Saying No To Things

I know we’re already halfway through the month of April, but I still wanted to check in with my goals. I also wanted to talk about something that’s been on my mind, which is knowing when to say no to things.   I’m I have a hard time saying no sometimes, and I know my…

Aspiring Writers Workshop Recap

Man, oh man. I took a few days before I could sit down and write this post, partly because I had so many emotions that I didn’t know how to put them in blog post form, and partly because I was soo exhausted from everything I’ve learned in those five days. As I’ve said before, I…

Currently #2: March Goals, Books and Thoughts

Hey y’all! I wanted to do another “Currently” post so this blog just won’t be filled with Goals recaps. I just to fill you guys in on what’s going on with me! Check out my last one here. Feeling: The end of February and the beginning of March have been so busy for me. My…

Comparison + Social Media

I never thought I’d be one of those people who fell for The Comparison Trap on social media. I guess it’s because of my cynical view of social media. Every since I took my very first social media break, I’ve looked at all of the social networks as very annoying if used excessively, and super negative. I hate…

February Goals + Time Management

I’m a little late, but here are my February goals. January was a great month and I think I did really well with my goals! Although I did struggle with one thing: time management. I think it’s because I wrote down so many goals in my Powersheets that I wanted to accomplish, when January 1st hit I…

  • I read this amazing anthology back in February — @wellreadblackgirl: a collection of essays edited by @guidetoglo, written by Black women, on the first time they saw themselves in the pages of a book they’ve loved. I’ve read and loved so many books as a child and have related to many characters, but I don’t think I really saw myself reflected racially in a book until my teenage years (except maybe Jesse from the Babysitters Club books?) For me, I always wanted to feel happy when reading, and the books presented to me about Black girls where always sad and/or dealing with slavery. I knew we were worth having more stories with happy endings too, and that thought fuels my writing to this day. ✨ Do you remember the first time you saw yourself in a book?
  • Thank you so much to @disney for gifting me this cute package to celebrate #marypoppinsreturns! It’s out now on digital, 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray. These books are so adorable! Have you read them or watched the movie yet? ☂️
  • I’ve partnered up with @letstalkYA and @freeform books to share a REALLY BIG book haul on my channel that includes this beauty, #TheEverlastingRose. 🌹 The link is in my bio! I can't wait to curl up with this book! Y'all know I am a huge fan of The Belles. Have you started this series yet?
  • These are the books I read in January (I’ll be sharing the books I read in February on my channel soon!) I didn’t plan on only reading books with blue covers. 💙 I really enjoyed all three of these books and two of them became 5 star reads for me. Have you read any of them?
  • This week was such an exciting one for THE FORGOTTEN GIRL! R.L. STINE, the author of the GOOSEBUMPS books, blurbed my novel!! He says "This ghost story gave me chill after chill. It will haunt you." 😱👻 WHAT! I received more exciting news that I can’t share yet, but can’t wait to. ✨ I’m just so thankful. 🙌🏽🙏🏽
  • “One can't stay sad very long in such an interesting world, can one?” 💗 I finished Anne of Green Gables in January and it became an instant favorite. It put me in a reading slump bc I wanted to read something exactly like it when I was done! Anne is such a lovable character and I feel like we have the same view on life. This is a classic, character driven story with beautiful descriptions that makes you feel like you’re going through Anne’s life with her. Have you read it? What other books give you the same feelings as this one? #AnneOfGreenGables
  • I turned in second pass pages for #TheForgottenGirl this week, so here’s a tiny sneak peek. 😍 Look at the chapter headings! ✨
  • Very cheesy selfie to tell you that I have a new video on my channel featuring the books I read in January and what I’m reading this month! Also this @olay sweatshirt is one of my favorite work-from-home shirts, ever. 📚
