I found my wedding dress!

Some exciting wedding news: I found my wedding dress!

I went to one store and only tried on a handful of dresses (the dress I ended up choosing was the second or third one I tried on!) but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one.

I knew I wanted my dress to be a Hayley Paige design. I saw her work in Southern Weddings magazine, and immediately fell in love with her style. It’s fun, flirty, romantic, regal, youthful… everything I wanted to feel as a bride. So, when the time came to search for dresses, I researched bridal shops around me that carried the brand.

You have these ideas of what planning your wedding will consist of. I’ve always thought that I would go to Kleinfeld in Manhattan (strangely enough, even though I lived in Manhattan and got engaged there I didn’t want to go) or Bridals By Lori in Atlanta to pick out my dress. Similarly to what I’m finding out with a lot of the choices I’m making with wedding planning, I went a different route than what I thought I would (I think I’m going to have to do an entire post about this soon!) and it ended up working out for the better.

I researched what stores carried Hayley Paige, and found out that a bridal boutique in Charlotte, Hayden Olivia was having a Hayley Paige Trunk Show. So I made my appointment (the last available appointment!) and my entourage and I made road trip to Uptown Charlotte!

I know some people just take two or three people dress shopping, but my entourage consisted of EIGHT girls: My mom, my grandma, my two aunts, my cousin, two of my best friends, and my future mother-in-law! I know a lot of people suggest that you don’t bring so many people because they can all be so opinionated, but I honestly don’t regret bringing so many girls. Everyone was so supportive and helpful and I genuinely feel like we all had the same opinions on the dresses I tried on! We all knew my dress was MY dress. And we all agreed on the ones that weren’t the right fit. Plus, everyone was so helpful with picking out my jewelry and fixing my dresses when I tried them on. There were moments where we ALL cried. It was the exact right mix of people and I’m so grateful!

When I arrived at Hayden Olivia, I was greeted by really friendly staff and a great consultant (I believe her name was Hunter!) we chatted a little bit about my engagement story and she asked if we wanted mimosas or champagne while we browsed the wedding dresses. I was given blue clothes pins and whichever dresses I liked, I pinned, and Hunter would take them to my dressing room.

I chose a few I really liked, some wildcard ones, and let my entourage pick some for me. My consultant helped me get in and out of each dress, making me feel really comfortable. I loved being able to talk about my thoughts on each dress with her before I showed everyone.

I tried on less than 10 dresses. Two of which I REALLY loved, but I ultimately went with my dress because it made me feel exactly how I want to feel on my wedding day. Paired with the accessories and veil (more on this later) I knew it was the one! The other dress was lovely, but it didn’t feel AS lovely on ME.  And to make everything even better, I was able to buy the sample! SCORE!

I took some pictures with the Hayden Olivia sign “Worth the Wait” by myself and a few different ones with the entourage. Afterwards, we all went out to eat for pizza, pasta and drinks. It was a very exhausting but satisfying day. I know the dream is trying on hundreds of dresses, but I feel so grateful that I found the one I loved immediately.

Let me know if you would like to see anymore wedding posts, and if so, about what? This is obviously new for me, but kind of fun! I’d love to do more.

There were so many themes, great costumes, acting and that score!!! Ugh! I’m also so proud to see a fellow South Carolinian (Chadwick Boseman) on the big screen! ✊🏽 #WakandaForever
